At Vancouver Laser & Skin Care Centre we see clients
every day that are looking for a subtle lip plumping
but are understandably concerned about looking
unnatural. It’s difficult to envision your results,
especially if you’ve never had dermal
fillers before. Scrolling through
social
media we are inundated with photos of plump,
juicy lips and while they may look nice, they
definitely don’t look natural. In the real world,
none of us wants to look like we’ve joined the ‘one
syringe too many’ club especially when we want to be
taken seriously in our professional lives. So here’s
what you need to know before you make a decision…
Things You May Want
to Know Before Getting Lip Fillers?
Make sure you're
having a natural, biodegradable product like
hyaluronic acid. While the results diminish over
time, it's important to work with fillers that are
compatible with our bodies and reversible, that way
you're not stuck with a permanent problem.
Another consideration
is choosing your injector. The best way to determine
if an injector's style is right for you is to view
photos of their work and ideally, to see real life
examples. If you don't know any of their patients
personally, go in for a consultation and take a look
at the staff. You want to see features that are
proportionate and harmonious with the rest of the
face, not big lips but sunken cheeks or hollow
temples. A skilled injector will listen to
what you're trying to achieve but also help you to
keep a realistic viewpoint if there are factors that
might affect a natural looking outcome.
Nearly all women
would like to see more fullness in their upper lip
but it's not a cookie cutter look for everyone and
there are different injection techniques and products
that your injector can use to help you achieve your
desired results.
How Does Lip Filler
Work?
You should also
understand that 1 syringe of filler is about 1/5th of
a teaspoon so it's virtually impossible to get that
'trout pout' effect. We sometimes use a visual
representation of gel on a teaspoon in our
consultations so clients have a relatable image and
can feel reassured before proceeding.
While the initial
plumping results are immediate, you really see the
full effect after about 2 weeks. By this time we know
that the filler has had a chance to settle into the
tissue and any firmness is typically resolved.
Some patients need a
bit more volume than what 1 syringe can achieve so
they might choose to add a bit more filler within 2-4
weeks after their initial treatment; by doing it in
stages we are able to gradually volumize the lips
without it being overtly obvious to everyone
else.
What To Expect
After A Lip Filler Treatment?
The average
duration for fullness ranges from 3-6 months but
everyone is different in the rate that they break
down the gel as well as when they personally notice
deflation. However, we've found that over time
many clients can sustain their fullness and go longer
between treatments. Plump lips are one of the most
underrated features that make a person look youthful
overall and when done correctly, it provides subtle
fullness and hydration. Check out our

subtle lip enhancement is right for you!
